Dr. Satinder Sartaj - Warish Shah of Today

Dr. Satinder Sartaaj was born in the village Bajrawar, Distt. Hoshiarpur. Living in the sleepy village as a child, Satinder hooked to the melody emanating from the Flute and Sarangi of the wondering folk artists. Talking about his schooling from his own village and nearby villages Chabbewal and Patti, he says “I started performing at the Bal-Sabhas when I was in 3rd grade and this marked the beginning of my journey!” After that, he joined Government College, Hoshiarpur to complete his graduation in Music with Honours as well as Sangeet Visharad, a five year diploma in classical music from Jalandhar. After completing his graduation and diploma, Satinder went to Punjab University, Chandigarh to complete Masters in Music. With blessing from his parents, he also completed M. Phil and PhD with a specialization in Sufi Music. To understand the deep thoughts of Sufi Poetry, Satinder completed a Certificate Course and Diploma in Persian (Farsi) Language as well. After completing his doctorate in Sufi Music, Dr. Satinder Sartaaj has been teaching at the Department of Music in Punjab University, Chandigarh.

Satinder Sartaj sings in his own style, Punjabi culture lives in the writings of his personality, his Sufi thoughts go deep in his poetry, and everyone gets lost in his composition. Once he starts the MEHFIL, everyone gets glued to their seats.

Dhaddi Amar Singh Shonki

Dhaddi Amar Singh Shonki, was born in village Bhajjalan, District Hoshiarpur and was known for singing “Sikh Dhaddi Warran” and “Sufi Dhaddis”, became famous for his soulful rendition of legends like “Heer-Ranjha” and “Mirza-Sahiba”. There is not much to say about Amar Singh Shaunki, but that he is without a doubt the man who has inspirded so many Panjabi singers, producers & DJs around the world over the last 40 years or so, and still does today.

Artists like Manmohan Waris, A.S.Kang, Panjabi MC, Tarli Digital to name just a few, have also had some of there work inspired by Shaunki.

Ilaka niwasi and Gram Panchayat of Bhajjalan, organize a cultural programme, ” Dhaddi Amar Singh Shaunki Sabhyacharak Mela”, every year in his memory. Dhaddi Amar Singh Shaunki Sabhyacharak Mela was earlier organized at Mahilpur but has been shifted to Bhajjalan only a few years ago. Top Punjabi singers around the world come to perform during this mela to pay tributes to the bard and do not charge for their performance during the mela.

Debi Makhsoospuri

Debi Maksoospuri belongs to a village named Makhsoospur, located near Mahilpur.He got a god gifted talent in Lyricisim, Poetry and Singing .He has given so many songs to the punjabi poetry which have become so popular.He also sings his own written songs . He is a great stage performer. He has written some great songs which have helped in making base of some great singers like Manmohan Waris.

The Heer trios, Manmohan Waris, Sangtar and Kamal Heer were born into a farming family in the Village of Halluwal, near Mahilpur, district Hoshiarpur (Punjab). They are famous for their “Punjabi Virsa World Tour” which they started in year 2006.

Kulwinder Dhillon

Kulwinder Dhillon was born in village Thuana, near Mahilpaur. He died in a car accident at the age of 32. He was a great Punjabi Folk Singh who had given few hit albums to his music lovers. His albums “Kacherian ch Mele Lagde,” “College,” and “Valli,” had achieved fame in the hearts of all the Punjabis living across the world.
